Working at Starbucks has shown me the amount of hardwork and dedication it takes to maintain a professional business. I have learned, first handedly, the importance of customer satisfaction. It goes far beyond just giving a customer their cup of coffee. Both communication and nonverbal communication play a vital role. Always having a positive attitude even in the toughest situations displays character. Actively listening to customers and handling any concerns within a timely and appropriate manner are skills that I have successfully gained. At Starbucks, I constantly used my problem solving skills to make sure customers left satisfied. Also, I acted as a leader by establishing work stations to employees where they could best perform. By actively working together as a team, I was able to share a strong connection with my coworkers.

Being ServSafe certified has allowed me to understand the importance of food safety. It has also given me the necessary knowledge to be able to implement food safety in my daily life. When working around food it is important that food safety protocal is managed effectively. Communicating and collaborating as a team can be extremely beneficial whenever it comes down to maintaining food safety.

Being a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics keeps me up to date with new research findings and career opportunities in the nutrition field. Through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I learned that Pennsylvanian dietitans have gained the privelage to write therapeutic diet orders. I hope to one day gain a leadership role within the Pennsylvania state affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

At Canonsburg Hospital, I completed 300 hours of supervised practice with a Registered Dietitian. I learned several different diets that are prescribed to patients with certain medical conditions. Some diets that I particularly focused on were for: Diverticulitis, Diverticulosis, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Nissen Fundoplication, End Stage Liver Disease, and many more. Also, I gained a lot of knowledge about different tube feeding products including: Jevity 1.0/1.2, Nepro, TwoCal HN, and Pulmocare. Part of my 300 hours was also completed within the food service department counting patient trays and documenting food temperatures. This eventually lead to a Nutritional Aide position once my field experience was completed.
